Strengthen the Links Between U.S. & China

USCEF's achievements are made possible through the combined energy of individuals, organizations, foundations and companies. Our work is focused on advancing specific, important and highly visible projects in China. In the process of the work, our partners gain deeper understanding of China while becoming more widely known in this important rapidly advancing market.

There are three ways you can participate:

  • 1. Become a partner on a specific project. Donations of all kinds are greatly appreciated. Depending on a contributing partner’s interests and requests, contributions can be directed to specific program areas. Additionally, USCEF leverages both corporate and foundation funding by utilizing matching grants and in-kind donations of professional services to support major program activities. All donations made to USCEF, a U.S. IRS 501(c)(3) corporation, are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
  • 2. In-kind giving of services and technology. USCEF welcomes contributions in the form of expert services and equipment. These "in kind" donations are invaluable in allowing us to operate cost effectively. The professionals who advise and support USCEF are instrumental in improving the organization's communications, research, investigations, and technologies. USCEF also seeks new equipment for field and administrative use such as computers, printers, cameras, and video equipment.
  • 3. Volunteerism - Volunteer your expertise. All major USCEF programs require committed volunteers and interns with specialized skills. Our volunteer and intern selection is strictly limited by need, available space and qualifications. Projects requiring specialized skills vary from landscape architecture, interpretation, and to resource conservation. Internships require a minimum time commitment of 15 hours/week for two months. Interns will gain valuable experience working in an active environmental organization under the guidance of a USCEF staff member.

Additional Details . . .

Development

USCEF has established a successful track record with China’s major environmental institutions. Accordingly, USCEF has been requested to implement far more projects than our current resources allow. To meet this increasing demand for USCEF services, we are creating an International Advisory Council and Corporate Council to assist USCEF target and support priority activityies. USCEF plans to create an endowment fund to assure continuation of projects and develop financial stability.

USCEF Funding Sources

We are very appreciative of the generous support of the following companies and institutions:

  • ConocoPhillips
  • The Human Society of the U.S. and Earth Voice
  • The Global Environment Facility/United Nations Development Program
  • The Baker Trust

Assurances-Use of Funds

USCEF’s administrative operations account for less than 10% of its total annual budget. That means that more than 90% of all funds earned and donated go directly to Chinese field programs or training activities for Chinese partners in the U.S. USCEF seeks matching funds and coordinates in-kind contribution of technical services of professional volunteers to leverage all donations to the greatest extent possible. USCEF also takes pride in careful budgeting, the review of expenditures and the application of appropriate cost controls.

Current Needs

There is an increasing demand for USCEF technical assistance. In fact the more successful USCEF projects have become, the more demand there is for our expert support. At the direction of the Board and with the recommendation of the strategic planning group, USCEF plans to add core administrative and project staff in late 2003 and 2004.

Non-Profit Status

USCEF is registered in the State of Wisconsin as a non-profit corporation named "Environmental Alliance -- U.S.-China Environmental Fund Corp." The Environmental Alliance non-profit corporation was founded in 1987, and was granted tax deductable status as a 501(c)3 organization by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service in 1989.

Conoco Phillips has contributed in excess of $1.1 million to USCEF since 1998

“Phillips China Inc, a subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, has been associated with USCEF for over five years. During that time USCEF has helped us elevate our relationships with various entities in China, one of which is the State Oceanic Administration. Corporate citizenship and protection of the environment are important to ConocoPhillips, and by working with valued partners -- such as USCEF -- we will achieve our objectives of serving the communities where we operate.”
